FAQ

Question:  What is the history of rehired annuitants from 1989 to 1992?

Answer:

WIS ACT 13 effective 7/1/89 for teachers and 1/1/90 for non-teachers

  • Rehired annuitants were no longer eligible to participate in WRS.

  • Rehired annuitants were terminated if they were being reported.

  • Rehired annuitants were only eligible to participate in WRS when they reached their earnings limit and met the WRS eligibility criteria.

  • Once eligible, the annuity was cancelled effective the first of the month in which the earnings limit was exceeded and credits were re-established and service, earnings and contributions added back on the account.

  • Disability annuitants were eligible for WRS if their annuity was terminated because they were no longer medically certified to be disabled and they met the WRS eligibility criteria.

  • Disability annuities were suspended when the earnings limit was exceeded for a disability annuitant.
